MISSION

The mission of the Greenbelt Land Trust is to conserve and protect in perpetuity native habitats, working lands and lands of natural beauty, which provide a connection to the natural world for the residents of the Mid-Willamette Valley.

WHO WE ARE

The Greenbelt Land Trust benefits the people of Oregon’s beautiful Mid-Willamette Valley by protecting valued ecosystems and productive farm and forest lands. Working with willing landowners and private and governmental organizations, we have permanently safeguarded over 1500 acres of farmland, forest, native prairies, and riparian areas. The Greenbelt currently owns 374 acres that we are actively restoring and utilizing for educational opportunities.

OUR GOALS

The Willamette Valley is one of the fastest growing regions of Oregon and is home to over 70 percent of the state’s population. Pressures to convert our remaining natural areas to other uses pose a significant threat to the future of our natural legacy. As a leading conservation organization, the Greenbelt Land Trust recognizes these pressures and has developed our programs to fulfill our mission to protect and steward the significant landscapes in which we work. The direct support of our members promotes each of the following programs:

  • Land Protection
Our Strategic and Conservation Plans guide our acquisitions to the highest priority lands in our region. We remain a highly successful organization by utilizing innovative approaches to land conservation. The Greenbelt Land Trust’s recognized and trusted leadership provides assurance of our ability to protect significant lands for future generations.
  • Stewardship
Stewarding land is a critical step in permanently protecting the conservation value of our significant landscapes. The Greenbelt Land Trust ensures that protected lands are restored and enhanced by collaborating with landowners, partners and volunteers and by raising funds to complete these tasks.
  • Outreach and Education
Creating a community of people who value and support land conservation promotes protection of natural areas, fish and wildlife resources, recreational trail networks, and appreciation for the natural world.
The Greenbelt Land Trust strives to connect people to nature and utilizes our natural areas as a forum for learning.
  • Trails
By partnering with local governments and trail organizations, the Greenbelt Land Trust assists in acquiring, building, and maintaining a network of trails that connect parks, open space and natural areas. Volunteers are the foundation of our effort due to their commitment to building trails.
  • Organizational Capacity
By supporting an effective Board of Directors and professional staff, and actively encouraging membership and volunteerism, Greenbelt Land Trust secures the resources to meet its operational and financial needs on a sustainable basis.

These five goals drive all our activities.
